Tenure-track faculty position in intelligent robotics
The University of Liège (ULg) invites applications for a tenure-track full-time faculty position in “Intelligent Robotics” in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (Montefiore Institute) of the School of Engineering and Computer Science, to be filled by October 1st, 2017.

The University of Liège

Founded in 1817, the Université de Liège offers a complete range of university courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It is divided into eleven faculties: Philosophy and Letters; Law, Political Science and Criminology; Sciences; Medicine; Applied Sciences; Veterinary Medicine; Psychology and Education; HEC Management School; Human and Social Sciences; Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech; and Architecture.

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (Montefiore Institute)

At the School of engineering and computer science of the University of Liège, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) offers several programs to undergraduate and graduate students. Since the end of the 19th century, it has developed a leading edge tradition in teaching and research in a range of basic and applied topics in various areas of Information and Communication Technologies, Computer Science, Electronics, Power Systems and Applied Mathematics, and it targets its efforts to contribute in application fields of societal importance, such as biomedical engineering, materials, energy systems, information systems, robotics, and transportation.

The department has a long-standing tradition of international recruitment at the Faculty level, and organizes all its Master’s programs in English.

Description of the position

The new faculty member will develop research in Intelligent Robotics in the EECS department with a focus on several of the following topics: sensing and signal processing (computer vision, audio and speech, tactile sensors, …), control and decision making under uncertainties (grasping, mobility, …), and the resolution of complex tasks such as recognizing and manipulating objects, with applications to the design of humanoid robots, autonomous vehicles, collaborative robots, intelligent agents…

He/she will also take part in the teaching activities, both at the undergraduate (Bachelor) and graduate (Master) levels, related to the basics of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Signal processing, and Optimal control, and will be progressively involved in services to the rest of the University and the Society in these fields.

Subject to evaluation after a couple of years, the position may further lead to a permanent academic position.

  1. A Dr or PhD degree;
  2. A high-level research experience in Intelligent Robotics and in related fields such as Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or Control;
  3. An engagement in both fundamental and applied research, and a strong interest for teaching.

Target starting date: 1st of October 2017

Application procedure
